Sobre Ona Zee
Ona Zee, originally named Ona Zimmerman, was born on March 3, 1951, in Los Angeles, California. She is a retired American adult film actress, director, producer, and model of Jewish heritage. Growing up with a sister and a half-sister, she ventured into modeling and acting at the tender age of 12. She completed her education at University High School in West Los Angeles and briefly pursued studies at California State University Northridge and Parsons School of Design in New York, as noted on IMDb. In the 1970s, she established herself as a professional model with the Wilhelmina Agency, featuring in Cosmopolitan and appearing in commercials for brands such as J.C. Penney, Levi’s, and Ultra Brite Toothpaste.
Zee has said that her transition to adult films stemmed from a desire to recreate the enjoyment she experienced in modeling. She entered the adult film industry at the age of 35 in 1986, a time when many actors had already long since retired. Over the course of her career, she starred in more than 300 films, gaining acclaim for performances in titles like Portrait of an Affair (1988, earning her the AVN Award for Best Actress in 1989), Starlet (1992, also garnering Best Actress), and Secret Garden 1 and 2 (1993, where she received the AVN Award for Best Supporting Actress). Often cast in roles depicting older women, she became known for her portrayals of MILFs or cougars.
In 1990, she established her own production company, Ona Zee Pictures, where she directed and produced a total of 67 films, including Strippers Inc. and the Ona’s Doll House series. Advocating for the rights of adult performers, she attempted to create a porn actors’ union in the 1990s, although it ultimately disbanded due to insufficient support.
After retiring from the adult film scene in 2003, she transitioned to a career in real estate as an agent for Coldwell Banker in Los Angeles under the name Ona Dawes and even started a jewelry line. Towards the end of her career, she identified as pansexual and developed a fascination with performing with trans individuals. This included participating in at least one film with a trans actor and exploring experiences that were unconventional in the industry. Additionally, she produced videos tailored for the bondage and fetish audience, dominating both male and female performers in her scenes. Notable projects in the bondage genre included Bondage Club parts 1-5, Bondage Memories 3, and Bondage Boot Camp. Her work often involved on-screen relationships with younger male actors, including those who typically starred in gay pornography. This led to controversy especially during the AIDS crisis, as well as her participation in several gay adult films, which paradoxically established her as a unique female figure crossing over into that realm.
Fans celebrated her as “a classy MILF pioneer,” particularly for her standout
