Parker Christian Posey is an American actress. She was labeled "Queen of the Indies" for starring in a succession of independent productions throughout the 1990s, such as Dazed and Confused (1993), Party Girl, The Doom Generation, Kicking and Screaming (all 1995), The Daytrippers (1996), The House of Yes, Clockwatchers (both 1997) and Henry Fool (1998). Although Posey began to appear in more mainstream titles starting in the late 1990s, she continues to work in art house features such as Fay Grim (2006), Columbus (2017), and Beau is Afraid (2023). Her more mainstream credits include You've Got Mail (1998), Scream 3 (2000), Josie and the Pussycats (2001), Superman Returns (2006), and Café Society (2016). She frequently works with Christopher Guest and has appeared in several of his mockumentaries, such as Waiting for Guffman (1996), Best in Show (2000), A Mighty Wind (2003), and For Your Consideration (2006). Outside film, Posey played Dr. Smith on Netflix's Lost in Space (2018–2021) and appeared as Freda Black in the HBO Max miniseries The Staircase (2022). She is the recipient of a Golden Globe Award nomination, a Satellite Award nomination, and two Independent Spirit Award nominations.
