Peri Gilpin — Biography

Born Peri Kay Oldham on May 27, 1961, in Waco, Texas, Peri Gilpin is an American performer recognized for her television roles. Her parents were James Franklin Oldham and Sandra Jo Hauck. Following her parents' divorce, her mother remarried Wes Gilpin in 1969, leading Peri to adopt her stepfather's last name. Her mother, who had a career in modeling and acting, believed combining their professional pursuits would be a positive family experience. Growing up in Dallas, Peri's passion for acting was nurtured. She honed her craft at the Dallas Theater Center before continuing her studies at the University of Texas at Austin and the British-American Academy in London.

Gilpin made an appearance on the television series Cheers, portraying Holly Matheson. However, she is perhaps best known for her decade-long portrayal of Roz Doyle in the popular sitcom Frasier, which ran from 1993 to 2004. This series was a spin-off of Cheers, continuing the story of Kelsey Grammer's character Frasier Crane. Gilpin, alongside the main cast, received a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2000 for their ensemble work in a comedy series.

Later, in 2009, Gilpin joined the cast of the ABC Family drama Make It or Break It as Kim Keeler, earning a Gracie Award for her performance as an outstanding supporting actress in a drama series.

In a business venture, Gilpin and her Frasier co-star Jane Leeves established a production company named "Bristol Cities." This company was responsible for projects including a pilot for the Fox network, "Minister of Divine," an American adaptation of the British comedy "The Vicar of Dibley," which featured another Cheers alumna, Kirstie Alley. The pilot, however, was not ultimately picked up by the network.

Gilpin has also lent her voice to a variety of animated projects and commercials. She voiced Jane Proudfoot in the film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Her voice work extends to characters like Desiree in Danny Phantom, Volcana in Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League, Hecate in Hercules: The Animated Series, and Kate Corrigan in the Hellboy animated films. Additionally, she provided voices for television commercials for Wells Fargo and Johnsonville Meats.

Her television appearances include roles in Medium and Desperate Housewives. She held a supporting role in Make It or Break It and appeared in episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She starred with Teri Polo in the Lifetime movie For the Love of a Child. In 2012, Gilpin reunited with Cheers actor Ted Danson for a guest appearance on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. She also had a recurring role in Men at Work, playing the editor of Full Steam magazine. In the second season of Scorpion, she took on the role of Katherine Cooper
