Queen Camilla — Biography

Camilla, whose birth name was Camilla Rosemary Shand and who later became known as Camilla Parker Bowles, now serves as Queen of the United Kingdom and the sovereign of 14 other realms within the Commonwealth, as the consort to King Charles III. Her upbringing took place in the English counties of East Sussex and the London district of South Kensington. Her educational journey spanned institutions in England, Switzerland, and France.

In 1973, she entered into marriage with Andrew Parker Bowles, a distinguished officer in the British Army. Their union concluded with a divorce in 1995. Throughout her life, Camilla and Charles experienced a deeply publicized on-again, off-again romantic connection. This involvement persisted both preceding and during the entirety of their respective initial marriages; Charles was at the time married to Princess Diana Spencer. Their relationship drew significant attention from the media, eliciting global scrutiny.

The couple officially married in 2005 at the Windsor Guildhall, an occasion followed by a televised Anglican blessing ceremony held at St George's Chapel within Windsor Castle. From the time of their marriage until Charles ascended to the throne, Camilla was known by the title Duchess of Cornwall. Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022, Charles became king, and Camilla assumed the role of queen consort. Their joint coronation ceremony was held at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023.

In her current capacity, Queen Camilla undertakes public duties on behalf of the monarch and lends her support as a patron to a multitude of charitable causes and organizations. Her dedication to raising awareness about osteoporosis, a cause she has championed since 1994, has been recognized with various honors and accolades. Furthermore, she has actively campaigned on critical issues including rape and sexual abuse, illiteracy, the welfare of animals, and the alleviation of poverty.
