Sandra Cretu — Biography

Sandra Ann Lauer, born May 18, 1962, and later known as Sandra Cretu, rose to prominence as a German pop artist. Her career flourished throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s, marked by a series of European chart successes. These hits were largely the product of her collaboration with, and then-husband, Michael Cretu. Among her most memorable songs are "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena" from 1985, "In the Heat of the Night" also in 1985, "Everlasting Love" in 1987, "Secret Land" in 1988, "Hiroshima" in 1990, and "Don't Be Aggressive" released in 1992. Her albums, including "Into a Secret Land" from 1988 and "Close to Seven" in 1992, garnered significant critical praise. Before her solo endeavors, Sandra fronted Arabesque, an all-female disco group that enjoyed immense popularity, particularly in Japan and the Soviet Union. She also contributed her voice to the critically acclaimed musical project Enigma between 1990 and 2001, an endeavor that produced top 10 hits in both North America and the United Kingdom. Sandra has cultivated a dedicated following, earning her status as a cult figure and one of the most enduring singers of the 1980s across continental Europe. At the peak of her fame, she even surpassed Madonna in sales in several global markets.
