Born Sherry Russell, the woman known to wrestling fans as Sherri Martel and more famously as Sensational Sherri, carved out a notable career both in the ring and as a ringside strategist. Her journey in professional wrestling commenced in the Mid-South territory, following her training in Columbia, South Carolina. By the mid-1980s, she had made her mark in the American Wrestling Association (AWA), capturing its World Women's Championship on three separate occasions.
Her talents then took her to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in the late 1980s, where she added the WWF Women's Championship to her accolades. Beyond her in-ring achievements in the WWF, Martel became a formidable presence as a manager, guiding the careers of prominent figures such as Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, and Shawn Michaels. The 1990s saw her compete in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and later in World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Within WCW, she served as the manager for the acclaimed tag team Harlem Heat.
