Theresa Lee "Terry" Farrell is an American actress and fashion model renowned for her portrayal of Jadzia Dax in the renowned television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and later as Regina "Reggie" Kostas in the comedy Becker. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she is the child of Kay Carol Christine (née Bendickson) and Edwin Francis Farrell, Jr. After her mother remarried David W. Grussendorf, he adopted Terry and her sister, Christine. During her junior year of high school, the nearly six-foot-tall Farrell submitted her photographs to the Elite modeling agency in New York City. At the age of 16, she received an invitation to New York, where, within 48 hours, she secured an exclusive contract with Mademoiselle. Her modeling career flourished as she graced the covers of the Italian and German editions of Vogue and appeared in various editorials for American Vogue. After 18 months in the modeling world, she turned her attention to acting while continuing to model part-time. Her early significant roles included a character in the short-lived 1984 TV series Paper Dolls (where she was cast as a model) and the film Back to School alongside Rodney Dangerfield. In 1989, she began her acting studies with Stella Adler and took on several guest roles in shows like Quantum Leap and The Cosby Show. In 1992, she played a character named Cat in an unpicked pilot for a U.S. version of Red Dwarf. Following the cancellation of that project, she landed a lead role in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, debuting in January 1993 as Jadzia Dax, a Starfleet science officer from the alien Trill species, who hosts a 300-year-old symbiont and can access the memories of its seven previous hosts. When she opted to leave the series after its sixth season, Paramount decided to kill off her character while continuing the Dax symbiont’s story with a new host portrayed by Nicole De Boer. After this, she co-starred in the sitcom Becker as Regina "Reggie" Kostas, serving as both a foil and love interest to Ted Danson's character for four seasons and 94 episodes until she was replaced by Nancy Travis. Additionally, Farrell lent her voice to Six of One in the animated short Tripping the Rift, which later became a Sci-Fi Channel series, where other actors voiced Six. Initially released independently online, the original version included the voice of Patricia Beckmann, later replaced by Farrell's voice in an episode of the Sci-Fi Channel's short film series Exposure, which Farrell guest hosted.
