Ana Kasparian — Biography

Ana Kasparian, born Anahit Misak Kasparian, is a prominent American voice in independent political commentary, media hosting, and journalism. Her career is most notably tied to The Young Turks, an online news program where she serves as the principal host and a producer. Her involvement with the show began in 2007 when she started as a fill-in producer. Kasparian also had a presence on the television iteration of The Young Turks, which broadcast on Current TV. Previously, she led her own show, The Point, on the TYT Network. Additionally, she co-hosted a program on the Jacobin YouTube channel titled Weekends with Ana Kasparian and Nando Vila. In the 2020 presidential election, Kasparian cast her vote for Bernie Sanders, explaining that her choice was influenced by her residence in California, a state with a predictable Democratic voting record, making her individual vote inconsequential.

Kasparian's heritage is Armenian. Her parents are immigrants from Armenia. Her paternal great-grandparents were survivors of the Armenian genocide in 1915. Her upbringing took place in the Reseda area of Los Angeles. Armenian was her initial language, and she entered kindergarten with no English proficiency. She credits the children's television show Sesame Street with accelerating her acquisition of English. In November 2015, Kasparian wed Christian Lopez, who has pursued careers as a Minor League Baseball player, model, and actor. As of December 2024, Kasparian maintains a significant online following, with 233,000 followers on Instagram and 602,000 followers on X.
