Angela Dorian — Biography
Under the name Angela Dorian, Vetri graced the pages of Playboy as the Playmate of the Month for the September 1967 edition and later earned the title of Playmate of the Year in 1968. For this accolade, she received a prize of $20,000 along with a brand new pink 1968 AMC AMX. A nude photograph of Vetri, alongside fellow Playmates Leslie Bianchini, Reagan Wilson, and Cynthia Myers, was playfully included in the Apollo 12 astronaut cuff checklists by NASA pranksters. Hoping that modeling for Playboy would enhance her chances for acting roles, Vetri later expressed that her experience instead restricted her opportunities, as she felt typecast due to her looks. She also posed topless for the April 1984 Playboy feature titled Playmates Forever! Part Two. In Tom Clancy's 2004 biography of retired General Tony Zinni, Zinni mentioned that he received the September 1967 Playboy centerfold as a birthday gift from his advisers, which became a cherished keepsake from his Vietnam days. In a turn of events, the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division arrested Vetri, setting her bail at an extraordinary $1.53 million. Judge Michael D. Abzug of the Los Angeles Superior Court declined to lower the bail while she awaited trial. In January 2011, he also turned down her attorney's request to lessen the charge of attempted murder against her, and she was ordered to face trial. By the time September 2011 arrived, the charge had been modified to attempted voluntary manslaughter, to which she entered a no contest plea. Subsequently, she was sentenced to nine years in state prison. Vetri was released on parole in April 2018 at the age of 73.
