Growing up in a modest fishing community in the Netherlands, Goddard developed her interest in modeling during her final year of secondary school. She submitted a photograph for entry into a modeling competition hosted by a magazine, and while she did not place in the contest, the submission led to a modeling contract offer from an agency based in Brussels.
