Bindi Irwin — Biography

Bindi Irwin carries a name steeped in meaning, with her first name, Bindi, a tribute to her father's beloved crocodile at the Australia Zoo. Her middle name, Sue, originates from her father's cherished dog, Sui. The name Bindi itself holds significance, translating to "young girl" in an Aboriginal dialect.

Her introduction to the world of television began at a tender age of two, and she consistently featured in her father's programs. The tragic passing of her father, Steve Irwin, due to a stingray barb on September 4, 2006, profoundly impacted Bindi and her mother, Terri. Following this loss, they vowed to uphold Steve's legacy by continuing their exploration of nature and its creatures.

At just eight years old, Bindi graced the cover of Australian magazine New Idea, an achievement that marked her as the youngest individual to ever be featured on its cover in its 104-year existence. Her talent was further recognized when she received the 2008 Most Popular New Female Talent Logie Award on May 4, 2008. A significant portion of her earnings, ten percent, is dedicated to the Wildlife Warriors charity, established by her family. At the age of nine, she was honored with a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series.

In 2015, Bindi embraced a new challenge by competing in the twenty-first season of the popular dance competition, Dancing with the Stars, where she was paired with choreographer Derek Hough. More recently, in June 2021, she shared that she would be stepping away from social media to dedicate her time to her newborn daughter and family.
