Dawn Elberta Wells is an American actress celebrated primarily for her portrayal of Mary Ann Summers on the CBS sitcom Gilligan's Island. She was among the last remaining regular cast members from the show. Born in Reno, Nevada, Wells completed her high school education at Reno High School. She initially studied chemistry at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, before transferring to the University of Washington in Seattle, where she earned her degree in theater arts and design in 1960. During her college years, she was a part of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. In 1959, she was honored as Miss Nevada and went on to represent her state in the Miss America 1960 pageant held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. After her time on Gilligan's Island, Wells pursued a career in theater, participating in nearly one hundred theatrical productions by July 2009. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she spent a significant amount of time touring with musical theater shows. Additionally, she showcased a one-woman performance at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in 1985. In 2005, TV Guide recognized Wells by ranking her No. 50 on its list of "50 Sexiest Stars of All Time."
