À propos de Dita von Teese
Dita Von Teese, originally named Heather Renée Sweet, was born on September 28, 1972, in Rochester, Michigan. She is an acclaimed American burlesque performer, model, actress, and entrepreneur, recognized for her significant role in revitalizing the art of burlesque, earning her the moniker "Queen of Burlesque." Growing up in West Branch, Michigan, in a household led by a machinist father and a manicurist mother alongside her two sisters, she cultivated a passion for the glamorous aesthetics of 1940s Hollywood, largely influenced by her mother’s admiration for icons like Betty Grable. At the age of 15, she began working in a lingerie shop, which ignited her interest in vintage lingerie and corsetry. By 19, she entered the world of stripping, donning vintage-inspired attire to distinguish herself.
Taking her stage name from silent film star Dita Parlo, she modified it with “Von Teese” after a misspelling by Playboy in 2002. Dita’s foray into burlesque initiated in 1992, where she captivated audiences with memorable performances, including her famous martini glass routine. Over the years, she has headlined several major shows: Strip, Strip Hooray! (2013–2016), The Art of the Teese (2017), Dita Von Teese and the Copper Coupe (2018), and Glamonatrix (2019–2023), achieving sold-out performances at renowned venues like the London Palladium and the Folies Bergère in Paris. Dita is easily recognized for her signature jet-black hair, bold red lips, and a remarkably laced 22-inch waist, which can be cinched down to 16.5 inches with corsets.
Her appearances extend beyond burlesque; she has been featured in Playboy (1999, 2001, 2002), fetish films like Romancing Sara (1995) and Andrew Blake’s Pin Ups 2 (1998), as well as mainstream productions, including The Death of Salvador Dali (2005), for which she received the Best Actress award at the Beverly Hills Film Festival, along with appearances on CSI and RuPaul’s Drag Race. As a savvy businesswoman, she established Dita Von Teese Lingerie and Von Follies in 2012, released four fragrances between 2011 and 2013, and launched a line of Dita Von Teese Eyewear, while also penning the book Your Beauty Mark (2015).
Throughout her career, Dita participated in two hardcore films, both directed by Andrew Blake: Pin Ups 2 (1998) and Decadence (1999). Blake believed she might become his muse, akin to Dahlia Grey; however, he soon discovered Dita was relatively reserved and not particularly inclined toward adult films.
