Emily VanCamp — Biography

Emily Irene VanCamp, born on May 12, 1986, is a talented actress hailing from Canada. She gained recognition for her prominent roles in various television series, including the WB's Everwood (2002), the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters (2006), and the hit show Revenge (2011). Additionally, she has portrayed Sharon Carter, also known as Agent 13, in the films Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016). Since January 2018, VanCamp has taken on the role of the female lead in the Fox medical drama series The Resident, which premiered as a midseason entry in the 2017-18 US television season.

VanCamp grew up in Port Perry, Ontario, as the third of four daughters born to Cindy and Robert VanCamp, with her father working as an animal nutritionist. Her early job involved supporting her father by delivering food to clients in their community. She began her dance training at the age of three, and by the time she was 11, she persuaded her parents to let her attend a summer dance program in Montreal. At the age of 12, she was accepted into the École supérieure de ballet du Québec, affiliated with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and moved in with a French Canadian family to pursue her passion.

VanCamp’s interest in acting was sparked in 1998 when she visited her sister Katie on the set of the film Ladies Room (1999). She began taking acting classes on Saturday afternoons and soon secured an agent. After appearing in several commercials, she landed a part in the second section of the three-part season-seven premiere of the Canadian children's horror anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1990), where her character had no dialogue and shared a scene with Elisha Cuthbert, who was 17 at the time. More recently, Emily has been cast as Captain America's designated SHIELD bodyguard and occasional love interest, a dynamic made complicated by the fact that Captain America once had feelings for her grandmother as well.
