Georgina Verbaan — Biography

Born on October 9, 1979, in The Hague, Georgina Carolina Verbaan is a Dutch talent recognized for both her acting and singing. Her path to performing began in 1988 when she participated in the musical Harlekijn, a pivotal experience that solidified her desire to act. By 1991, she had enrolled in a four-year program at the Rabarber theater school.

Verbaan’s career reached a significant turning point in 1997. At just sixteen, she became a household name with her role as Hedwig Harmsen in the popular Dutch soap opera Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden. Her portrayal made her one of the show's most beloved stars during her tenure. This performance earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Soap at the Dutch Academy Awards in 1998. She departed the series in 2000, aiming to broaden her acting horizons.

Her film career gained momentum in 2001 with the Dutch movie Costa!, a considerable success that drew over 200,000 viewers domestically and achieved platinum status. Verbaan contributed vocally to the film, performing both its theme song and her original track, Ritmo. Following a brief appearance in the international film Soul Assassin in 2001, she returned to Dutch cinema with Volle maan in 2002, a film that unfortunately did not perform well. In 2003, Verbaan took on a leading role in the international production Adrenaline. November 2004 saw her grace the cover of the Dutch edition of Playboy magazine.

In 2005, Verbaan’s performance in the B-movie Joyride garnered her a Gouden Ui, a Dutch award acknowledging less-than-stellar acting. Venturing into politics in 2006, she represented the Party for the Animals in the Dutch general election. Today, Georgina Verbaan stands as one of the Netherlands' most recognized actresses, with a resume featuring numerous film and television appearances. She has made guest appearances on popular programs like Lotte and participated in Ranking the Stars. Her later work includes a starring role in 't Schaep Met De 5 Pooten, for which she also contributed several songs.
