Hailie Deegan — Biography
Hailie Rochelle Deegan, born July 18, 2001, is an American professional stock car racer. She currently competes full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, piloting the No. 15 Ford Mustang for AM Racing. Deegan is aligned with Ford Performance, having previously been part of Toyota Racing Development. Her racing journey began in off-road and dirt competitions before she transitioned to asphalt tracks in 2016 to pursue a career in stock car racing.
Deegan made her NASCAR debut in 2018 in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. She achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first female driver to win races in the West Series, securing victories in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. She is the daughter of Brian Deegan.
In 2021, Deegan moved to a full-time role in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. On October 17, 2020, Ford Performance confirmed her plans to compete for David Gilliland Racing (formerly DGR-Crosley) in 2021. Her truck number, 1, was revealed on January 18, 2021. A notable achievement that season was a seventh-place finish at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in August, marking her first career top-ten finish in the Truck Series and the first by a woman outside of a superspeedway event. She concluded her rookie season with that Gateway result and a 17th-place standing in points. Deegan viewed her rookie year as a valuable learning experience, particularly due to pandemic-related restrictions that limited practice and qualifying. She also acknowledged the benefit of her significant social media presence, which fostered sponsor patience. She was voted the 2021 Truck Series Most Popular Driver, continuing a rookie trend after Zane Smith received the award in 2020.
Deegan made her NASCAR Xfinity Series debut on October 4, 2022, driving the No. 07 for SS-Green Light Racing at Las Vegas. She finished 13th, on the lead lap, setting a new series debut record for a female driver.
In 2024, Deegan will race full-time in the Xfinity Series. On October 5, 2023, she signed a multi-year agreement with AM Racing to drive the No. 15 car.
Known for her assertive racing style, all three of Deegan's K&N Pro Series West victories involved contact with other cars, with her final win seeing her spin a teammate. In 2019, racer Kelly Crandall described Deegan as someone who "doesn't care what anyone on or off the track thinks" and is determined to win races at any cost.
