Kat Gunn — Biography

Born on April 20, 1988, Katherine Gunn, recognized online as "Mystik," is a prominent figure in American esports and the world of cosplay. Her television debut on Syfy's WCG Ultimate Gamer, where she emerged victorious in its second season, marked a significant early achievement. Prior to that, she also showcased her skills on the Championship Gaming Series, a competition broadcast on DirecTV.

Gunn's impressive career in competitive gaming earned her a place in the Guinness World Records 2016 Gamer's Edition. The publication highlighted her as the highest-earning female gamer, noting her cumulative earnings of $122,000 since 2007. However, a more comprehensive look at her income, including her salary from the 2007 and 2008 seasons of the Championship Gaming Series, where she reportedly earned a minimum of $30,000 annually, pushes her total earnings beyond $160,000 since 2007.

Her formative years were spent in California's Antelope Valley, primarily in the communities of Lancaster and Palmdale. Raised by her parents, Patrick and Pamela Gunn, she shared her upbringing with her older siblings, Peter and Samantha. Gaming was a family affair, with the Gunns frequently engaging in gameplay together, a passion that included extensive sessions of the original EverQuest.

Beyond digital realms, Gunn's family owned a comic book and trading card store located in Canoga Park. This environment served as a pivotal influence during her youth, nurturing her burgeoning enthusiasm for video games and trading card games. The store's offerings provided ample opportunity to deepen her affection for Magic: The Gathering, though her interests also extended to dabbling in the Pokémon trading card game.

Gunn was among the initial beta testers for Microsoft's Xbox Live online gaming service. During this early phase, titles like MechAssault and Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge became particular favorites, and she swiftly ascended to the top of the leaderboards in MechAssault's Wild Chicken online mode. As of June 2025, Gunn has cultivated a substantial online following, boasting 38,100 subscribers on YouTube and 254,000 followers on her Twitch channel.
