Katie Cassidy — Biography
Born into a storied entertainment dynasty, Katie Evelyn Anita Cassidy entered the world on November 25, 1986. Her father, David Cassidy, found fame as a teen idol and musician with The Partridge Family. Her lineage further connected her to Hollywood's legacy through her paternal grandparents, actors Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward, and her uncles, Shaun Cassidy, a popular star and producer, and actors Patrick and Ryan Cassidy. From her father's third marriage to Sue Shifrin, she has a younger half-brother, Beau, born in 1991. Her mother also has two younger daughters from her marriage to Richard Benedon, Jenna and Jamie.
Cassidy's own acting journey began with smaller television appearances. She gained significant recognition within the horror genre, earning the "scream queen" moniker for her performances in films like When a Stranger Calls and Black Christmas, both released in 2006. The following year, she joined the cast of the supernatural series Supernatural, portraying Ruby during its third season.
Her career continued to gain momentum with a supporting part in the 2008 action film Taken. She then took on leading roles in the mystery horror series Harper's Island and a revival of the drama Melrose Place, both airing in 2009. In 2010, Cassidy starred as Kris Fowles in the remake of the slasher classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, and also joined the cast of the teen drama Gossip Girl for its fourth season, playing the recurring character Juliet Sharp.
Cassidy achieved her breakout success in 2012 when she was cast as Laurel Lance, also known as Black Canary, in the CW series Arrow. Her portrayal of the character extended to other shows within the Arrowverse, including The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, and she lent her voice to the animated web series Vixen. Following her character's departure from Arrow in its fourth season, Cassidy returned to play Laurel Lance's doppelganger, Black Siren, an antagonist from an alternate reality, who first appeared on The Flash before continuing her arc on Arrow.
