Kira Kener — Biography
Kira Kener, originally named Stephanie Lynn Knain, was born on August 11, 1974, in San Jose, California. Growing up in a middle-class household with a Norwegian father and a Vietnamese mother, she later adopted the name Kira Kener, which she also trademarked. Following her high school graduation, Kener embarked on a career as an exotic dancer in North Carolina in her early twenties. Her appeal on stage earned her prestigious titles, including Miss Nude Asia in both 1997 and 1998, as well as Exotic Dancer Cover Girl of the Year in 1998.
In 1999, at the age of 25, Kener joined the adult film industry, signing an exclusive contract with Vivid Entertainment to become one of their "Vivid Girls." Her on-screen career kicked off with her debut in the film Nurses. Between 1999 and 2007, she starred in over 150 adult films, such as Swirl, Eye Spy, True Blue, Facade, and Where the Boys Aren’t 14, showcasing her exotic appeal and versatility in both lesbian and heterosexual scenes. Throughout her career, she worked alongside notable performers like Briana Banks, Cheyenne Silver, and Rocco Siffredi.
Kener's contributions to the industry did not go unnoticed; she was named Penthouse Pet of the Month in December 2002 and appeared alongside other Vivid Girls on the cover of Playboy in March 2002. In 2004, she co-authored a book titled How to Have a XXX Sex Life: The Ultimate Vivid Guide and was featured in Timothy Greenfield-Sanders's XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits. In 2007, she starred in Virtual Sex With Kira Kener, a film released by Digital Playground that became her only hardcore project without the use of condoms for male partners. This release was nominated for Best Interactive DVD at the 2008 AVN Awards.
Despite not winning major awards, Kener was revered as a fan favorite for her striking beauty. Standing at 5'4” and weighing 110 pounds, she had brown hair, brown eyes, and a 34DD-24-38 figure, while also having breast implants and no noted tattoos or piercings. Kener faced controversy when she filed a lawsuit against Vivid in 2007, alleging wrongful termination, breach of a website agreement, and trademark dilution while raising concerns about unsanitary conditions and performer safety. Vivid claimed she was difficult to work with and was attempting to start her own business during her tenure. The lawsuit was settled out of court in April 2007, with the settlement terms kept private.
In a 2010 interview, Kener expressed her dissatisfaction with her adult film career, revealing that she had pursued it primarily to enhance her stripping career and that she often relied on drugs like cocaine, especially during scenes she disliked. She identified as straight and considered herself "gay
