Lauren Michelle Hill hails from Columbia, South Carolina, and built an extensive portfolio with Playboy Plus that included ten cover appearances, eight photosets, and two videos. She earned recognition as the October 2000 Playboy Playmate of the Month, with the honor announced in February 2001, and later became the Playboy Netherlands Playmate of the Month in July 2001. Hill demonstrated her competitive spirit by winning the Playboy Playmates edition of Fear Factor and advancing to the Tournament of Champions in the show's second season before being eliminated in the second round.

While attending the University of South Carolina as a journalism student, Hill served as a cheerleader for the university. She pursues her entertainment career under the professional name Lauren James. A Playboy scout discovered her at a swimsuit competition held in St. Croix. Among her numerous modeling achievements, she appeared as a calendar girl in the inaugural Playmates at Play calendar in February 2005, which was photographed at the Playboy Mansion in 2004. This calendar represented Playboy's first venture into producing a non-nude swimsuit calendar featuring Playmates, drawing inspiration from the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue format.

Beyond her Playboy work, Hill has modeled for GUESS and graced the pages of Maxim magazine, including its 2006 wall calendar. Her entertainment portfolio expanded to include appearances in music videos for Bryan Adams, Weezer, Justin Timberlake, and Marc Anthony. Before her modeling career took off, she worked as a child actress, notably appearing in Disney's Heavyweights in a scene where her character captures the attention of other young actors at a dance scene. Later in her career, Hill appeared as herself in the 2008 film The House Bunny.
