À propos de McKayla Maroney
McKayla Maroney, born on December 9, 1995, is a retired American gymnast and former actress. She entered the world in Aliso Viejo, California, as McKayla Rose Maroney, the daughter of Erin and Mike Maroney, the latter of whom passed away in 2019. Her father played quarterback at Purdue University, while her mother participated in figure skating and high school sports. McKayla’s heritage is Irish Catholic, and she has two siblings, Tarynn and Kav. To accommodate her rigorous training as an elite gymnast, she was homeschooled. Maroney recalled, "When I was younger, I would be watching Tarzan and running around on all fours. My mom was like, 'I need to put this child in gymnastics. She's crazy.' I was technically in gymnastics at the age of two and always felt comfortable in the gym." At the age of nine, she began her training at Gym-Max in Costa Mesa, California. By 2012, she had declared her ambition to compete in the Olympics, prompting her to seek out a new gym to further her dreams. Reflecting on her early Olympic inspiration, she shared a special memory: "I remember watching Carly Patterson. She was one of my favorites. I loved her floor routine. I went to Olympic Trials that year (2004) with Kyla [Ross]. I remember seeing the gymnasts on the floor and I loved all of their leotards. I thought they were so little and so amazing. I thought, how am I going to stay this little? I was worried that I was going to be really tall because my dad is 6'3" and my mom is 5'2", so I didn't know which one I was going to be."
Maroney ventured into acting with her debut on the CW series Hart of Dixie on November 20, 2012, where she portrayed Tonya, a friend of Rose in the episode titled "Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me." Her role transitioned into a recurring position, leading to her appearance in six episodes. In December 2013, she joined the cast of the Fox series Bones for the episode "The Spark in the Park," playing a gymnast named Ellie who became embroiled in a murder investigation concerning a fellow gymnast. On August 19, 2016, she appeared as herself in the first episode of the second season of NBC’s Superstore, titled "The Olympics," alongside fellow Olympians Tara Lipinski and Apolo Ohno. In 2021, she featured in several commercials for GEICO, where her iconic unimpressed expression, captured after winning a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics, was transformed into the viral meme “McKayla is not impressed.” After retiring from competitive gymnastics in 2016, Maroney faced personal loss when her father passed away at the age of 59 on January 15, 2019.
