Raveena Tandon — Biography
Raveena Tandon is a celebrated Indian actress primarily recognized for her impactful contributions to Hindi cinema. Her career is distinguished by a collection of prestigious accolades, including a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards, and a Filmfare OTT Award. In recognition of her significant achievements, she was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 2023. Emerging from a filmmaking lineage as the daughter of director Ravi Tandon, she made her acting debut in 1991 with the action film Patthar Ke Phool, a performance that earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Tandon quickly solidified her presence by portraying leading characters in a string of commercially successful action movies such as Dilwale and Mohra in 1994, followed by Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi in 1996 and Ziddi in 1997. Her portrayal in the 1994 drama Laadla garnered her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Throughout the latter half of the 1990s, she formed a successful comedic partnership with Govinda, starring in hits like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Dulhe Raja in 1998, and Anari No.1 in 1999. Tandon also demonstrated her versatility by taking on challenging roles in crime dramas like Ghulam-E-Mustafa in 1997 and Shool in 1999. The new millennium saw Tandon explore more artistically driven projects, earning considerable critical praise for her performances in the 2001 films Daman and Aks. Her role in Daman earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress, while Aks secured her a Filmfare Special Performance Award. Following her marriage to film distributor Anil Thadani, Tandon took a hiatus from feature films. She intermittently graced the small screen with appearances in television dramas such as Sahara One's Sahib Biwi Gulam in 2004, the dance reality show Chak De Bachche in 2008, and talk shows like Isi Ka Naam Zindagi in 2012 and Simply Baatien With Raveena in 2014. After an extended period away, Tandon returned to acting with the 2017 thriller Maatr and garnered widespread acclaim for her lead role in the Netflix crime thriller series Aranyak in 2021, which resulted in a Filmfare OTT Award for Best Actress.
