Storm Large — Biography
Susan Storm Large, born June 25, 1969, is a multifaceted American artist known for her talents as a vocalist, composer, performer, and writer. She gained widespread recognition during her participation in the CBS reality competition Rock Star: Supernova. Based in Portland, Oregon, Large is a fixture on the national music scene with her own ensemble, and also shares her artistry on the international stage as a member of the globally recognized Pink Martini.
Raised in the suburban community of Southborough, Massachusetts, Large's artistic inclinations surfaced early, with her beginning to sing and compose at the tender age of five. Her academic journey led her to St. Mark's School, a private institution, from which she graduated in 1987. Her father, Henry Large, was a significant figure at the school, serving as a history instructor and coach for the football team before his retirement. Post-secondary education took her to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.
In 2002, Large relocated to Portland, Oregon, with initial intentions to step away from music and pursue studies at the Western Culinary Institute. However, encouraged by friends, and notably by Frank Faillace, the proprietor of the Portland rock venue Dante's, she reignited her musical pursuits, forming a band named "The Balls." Large identifies as bisexual, though she personally prefers the descriptor "sexually omnivorous" over the established term.
