Annita Demetriou — Biography

Hailing from Troulloi, Cyprus, Annita Demetriou has carved a significant path in the nation's political landscape. She currently presides over the Cypriot House of Representatives, a role she assumed in June of 2021. Prior to that, in March 2023, she became the leader of the Democratic Rally party. Demetriou holds the distinction of being both the youngest individual and the first woman to achieve these prominent leadership positions. Her political journey began in earnest in 2016 when she started representing the Larnaca constituency in the House of Representatives. While recognized for her proactive approach to legislation, particularly concerning various social matters, Demetriou has also faced criticism for what some perceive as an authoritarian style, with accusations of whining and condescending behavior.
