Barbara Dare — Biography
Barbara Dare, a native of Wayne, New Jersey who later relocated to New York City, established herself as a prominent figure in adult entertainment during the 1980s and early 1990s. Throughout her career, she posed for 57 magazine covers, contributed to 12 photosets, and appeared in 45 videos before stepping away from the industry in 1994. Her entry into adult films stemmed from her participation in the swinging lifestyle scene in New York City. During the early 1980s, she became so well-known at the nightclub Plato's Retreat that she earned the title "Miss Plato's." Beginning her film work in the mid-1980s, Dare gained recognition through appearances in publications including Hustler, Swank, and High Society. In 1989, she partnered with adult film actress Stephanie Swift to write a monthly column for Swank magazine. She worked alongside notable performers such as Tracey Adams and Ginger Lynn, steadily rising to become one of the industry's leading stars. Dare was among the first women in the field to secure an exclusive studio contract. She subsequently departed from that arrangement to sign with Vivid, becoming one of the studio's earliest contracted performers. Since her retirement, Dare has maintained privacy regarding her personal life, though she has been in relationships with both men and women.
