Nicole Evangeline Lilly, born on August 3, 1979, is a Canadian actress and writer. She rose to fame for her significant role as Kate Austen in the ABC drama series Lost, which aired from 2004 to 2010, earning her a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Lilly has also been featured in the acclaimed war film The Hurt Locker (2008) and the sports drama Real Steel (2011). She gained further recognition for her portrayal of Tauriel in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, appearing in The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Battle of the Five Armies (2014). Additionally, Lilly has taken on the role of Hope van Dyne within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with the film Ant-Man in 2015. Beyond acting, she has authored a children’s book series titled The Squickerwonkers.
Lilly was married to Canadian hockey player Murray Hone and had a romantic relationship with her Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan from 2004 until 2009. In May 2011, she welcomed her first child, a son named Kahekili, with her partner Norman Kali while in Hawaii. The couple later had a second son in October 2015. In June 2024, Lilly announced her decision to temporarily step away from acting to prioritize her family, expressing that while she may return to Hollywood in the future, her current focus is on her loved ones.
On May 30, 2025, Lilly experienced facial injuries after fainting and falling onto a boulder. By January 2, 2026, she revealed that the traumatic brain injury from the accident resulted in brain damage, leading her to concentrate on her recovery.
