Sobre Greta Thunberg
Greta Thunberg's journey into climate activism initiated when she influenced her parents to make choices that would lessen their family’s carbon footprint. At the age of 15, in August 2018, she took the bold step of skipping school to advocate for climate action until the next Swedish election, aiming to impact its outcome. Stationed outside the Swedish parliament, she held a sign proclaiming "Skolstrejk för Klimatet" (School Strike for Climate) and distributed flyers to spread awareness about the urgent need for action on climate change. Following the election, Thunberg addressed a crowd, encouraging them to record her message. She declared her intent to persist with her school strikes every Friday until Sweden adhered to the Paris climate agreement. Her candidness and youthfulness contributed significantly to her emergence as a global figure. After her inaugural school strike, many other students engaged in similar movements, leading to the birth of a collective school strike for climate initiative. Thunberg's speech at the 2018 United Nations Climate Change Conference catalyzed a series of weekly climate strikes across the globe on Fridays. By 2019, coordinated protests in multiple cities saw participation from over a million students at each event. To minimize carbon emissions, Thunberg sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in a zero-carbon boat to arrive in New York, where she addressed the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit. In her address, she criticized world leaders for their apathy towards the climate crisis. Following her high school graduation in 2023, her activism has garnered increasing global attention, with her protest methods becoming bolder. As she transitioned into adulthood, her demonstrations have included peaceful protests as well as acts of civil disobedience, leading to arrests, convictions, and one acquittal. Thunberg's activism has also expanded to other issues, notably taking a pro-Hamas position during the Israel–Hamas conflict. Her rise to prominence has positioned her as an informal leader among climate activists, and media outlets like The Guardian have referred to the impact of her efforts as the "Greta effect." She has received numerous accolades, including being named in Time's 100 most influential people, becoming the youngest recipient of the Time Person of the Year in 2019, being featured on Forbes' list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women in the same year, and receiving nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2021, Thunberg shared a "toolkit" to assist farmers demonstrating against regulations in India, which led to violent counter-protests and accusations of her involvement in an “international criminal conspiracy against India.” An ally of Thunberg, Dasha Ravi, was detained by the Indian government but was later released. Thunberg was born to opera singer Malena Ernman and actor Svante Thunberg. Her grandfather, Olof Thunberg, was a noted actor and director. They have faced criticism from some quarters, with claims of exploiting her mental health challenges,
