Sobre Natalie Wood
Natalie Wood, born Natalia Zacharenko on July 20, 1938, was an iconic American actress whose career began in childhood and seamlessly evolved into young adult roles. She made her acting debut at the tender age of four and secured a significant co-starring part when she was just eight years old in the classic Miracle on 34th Street (1947). By her teenage years, Wood had already garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), followed by a performance in John Ford's The Searchers (1956).
Her filmography flourished with significant roles in the musical features West Side Story (1961) and Gypsy (1962). She received additional Academy Award nominations for Best Actress for her work in Splendor in the Grass (1961) and Love with the Proper Stranger (1963). Wood's career remained vibrant with films such as Sex and the Single Girl (1964), The Great Race (1965), Inside Daisy Clover (1965), and Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969).
In the 1970s, Wood took a step back from cinema to raise her family, having two daughters—one with her second husband Richard Gregson, and another with her first husband Robert Wagner, whom she remarried after their divorce. During this period, she only appeared in two feature films but was more active in television, notably starring in a remake of From Here to Eternity (1979), for which she won a Golden Globe Award. Her body of work captured a significant evolution not only for herself but also for Hollywood, reflecting a shift in the portrayal of American women as she navigated roles from childhood through middle age.
Tragically, on November 29, 1981, at the age of 43, Wood drowned in the Pacific Ocean near Santa Catalina Island while on a break from filming her anticipated comeback project, Brainstorm (1983). She was accompanied by her husband Wagner and co-star Christopher Walken. Due to varying accounts surrounding her death, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, guided by the coroner's office, officially classified her cause of death in 2012 as "drowning and other undetermined factors." In 2018, Wagner was identified as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into her untimely demise. Natalie Wood was also the sister of actress Lana Wood.
