About Giuliana De Sio
Born in Salerno and raised in the family's ancestral town of Cava de' Tirreni, Giuliana De Sio first graced a stage at the tender age of five in Salerno's Verdi theater. Her professional journey commenced in 1976, when Gianni Bongiovanni recognized her talent for the RAI television film Una donna. Subsequently, Elio Petri cast her in Mani sporche, and Mario Monicelli selected her for the lead role in Il malato immaginario, sharing the screen with the iconic Italian actor Alberto Sordi. A pivotal moment arrived in 1982 with her collaboration with Massimo Troisi on Scusate il ritardo, which introduced her to a new wave of Italian filmmakers. She further cemented her reputation with Francesco Nuti in the acclaimed films Io, Chiara e lo Scuro and Casablanca Casablanca. De Sio identifies as an atheist and is the younger sibling of folk musician Teresa De Sio.
