About Sasha Cohen
Born Alexandra Pauline Cohen on October 26, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, Sasha Cohen stands as a notable figure in American figure skating. Her Ukrainian mother, Galina, a former ballerina and Jewish immigrant, alongside her Jewish American father, Roger, a business consultant with a background in law, shaped her upbringing. Cohen adopted the Ukrainian diminutive "Sasha" for Alexandra, a name chosen in honor of her mother's cherished ballerina. Her journey on the ice commenced at the age of seven, and by fifteen, she had already secured a silver medal at the U.S. national championships. Her Olympic debut occurred in 2002, where she finished in fourth place, a position she also held at the 2002 and 2003 World Championships. In 2004, she earned her inaugural World Championship medal, a silver. She ascended to the podium again at the 2006 Olympics, capturing the silver medal. Beyond her competitive career, Cohen showcased her talents on screen, starring in the 2007 film Moondance Alexander alongside Don Johnson, Lori Loughlin, Kay Panabaker, James Best, and Whitney Sloan. Her impressive resume also includes the title of 2003 Grand Prix Final Champion and the 2006 U.S. National Champion.
