Fiona Lewis — Biography

Fiona Lewis, an English actress, made her debut in 1946 in Westcliffe-on-Sea, Essex. Her early career included a role in a 1966 episode of The Saint alongside Roger Moore. Lewis initially found footing in low-budget horror productions, often portraying characters in peril with a captivating fear. Her first notable appearance was as a serving girl in Roman Polanski's 1967 film, The Fearless Vampire Killers. She later brought an unexpected elegance to darker films such as Dr. Phibes Rises Again in 1972 and Blue Blood in 1973.

However, her filmography wasn't exclusively gothic. Lewis also contributed to lighter fare, appearing in the spy comedy Otley in 1969. In the same year, she played a highwayman's associate in Where's Jack? She portrayed Ian McShane's girlfriend in the 1971 Richard Burton film, Villain, and later engaged with the composer Franz Liszt in Ken Russell's extravagant 1975 production, Lisztomania.

Dissatisfied with her career trajectory in England, Lewis relocated to the United States. In the U.S., she featured in Dino De Laurentiis's 1976 film, Drum. She then took on the role of a journalist in Stunts (1977) and delivered a memorable performance as a seductive government agent facing a grim fate in Brian De Palma's The Fury (1978). Her other American film credits include the Western Wanda Nevada (1979), a chilling portrayal of a nurse in the Australian film Strange Behavior/Dead Kids (1979), a brief turn as an alien in Strange Invaders (1983), and a doctor in Joe Dante's science fiction adventure Innerspace (1987). While Lewis had made appearances on British television and was notably featured on Monty Python's Flying Circus, her sole American TV role was as Lucy in the 1974 CBS adaptation of Dracula. Beyond her acting work, Lewis has also written screenplays, worked as a journalist, and had her artwork exhibited. Her memoir, MISTAKES WERE MADE (Some in French), chronicles her experiences as a B-movie actress.

Originally from an upper-class background in England, Fiona Lewis arrived in Los Angeles in the early 1970s. She quickly integrated into the modeling and acting scenes. Her path to modest recognition was paved by her willingness to take on revealing roles. In Los Angeles, she briefly dated Cary Grant, only to discover his daughter was the intended companion. Without formal acting training, Lewis was cast by Roman Polanski in his film The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me, but Your Teeth Are in My Neck, playing a spirited maid. Her first Hollywood film was Dino De Laurentiis
